Swan, Chapman earn Outstanding Athlete awards at CHS

CARIBOU — Caribou sports participants were honored on June 4 for their efforts on the baseball and softball diamond, tennis courts and track this spring.

The Dwight P. Hunter Athletic Achievement Award was presented to 12 Viking athletes at the spring sports awards night held June 4. To receive the honor, individuals must participate on a team all three sports seasons for four years. Viking senior Morgan Swan was named Outstanding Senior Female Athlete, while Caleb Chapman received the Outstanding Senior Male Athlete award. Katelyn Plourde and Chad Caverhill each received the Jack Gardiner Memorial Scholarship, while Katherine Keaton and Joshua Kovach were recipients of the Paul Soucie Award. The Jack Gardiner Award is for a combination of athleticism, citizenship and leadership, while the Paul Soucie Award is for fair play, hard work, commitment and leadership.

Twelve athletes received the Dwight P. Hunter Athletic Achievement Award, given to seniors who participate in fall, winter and spring sports for all four years of their high school career. They were Jesse Sandstrom (cross country, Nordic skiing and track and field), Plourde (cross country, Nordic skiing and track and field), Paige Small (soccer, basketball/Alpine skiing and track and field), Samantha Murchison (soccer, Nordic skiing and track and field), Kovach (soccer/cross country, Nordic skiing and track and field), Kelly Kashian (cross country, Nordic skiing and track and field), Annie Collins (soccer/cross country, basketball and track and field), Chapman (cross country/golf, Nordic skiing and track and field/baseball), Caverhill (soccer, basketball and baseball), Keaton (soccer, basketball and tennis), Swan (soccer, wrestling and  track and field) and Jamie Martin (soccer, basketball and softball).

Letter sweaters went to athletes earning three letters in one sport and a combination of three in others, or those earning a total of seven letters. Recipients were Sean Barbosa, Kjetil Rossignol, Hannah Hebert, Kovach, Olivia Sleeper, Mackenzie Belyea, Alexa Massey, Chelsea Bard and Collins.

Boys varsity track (coach Todd Alley) — junior varsity letters: Dylan  Coty, Dustin Coty, Graham Freme, Zebadiah Johnson, Kameron Manter, Greg Martin, Alex Murchison and Nathan Wall; varsity letters: Chapman, Keith Draper, Austin Griffeth, Colby Holdsworth, Charm Karunasiri, Derik Michaud, Kris Michaud, Mitchell St. Peter, Tyler Strid, Marc Sturzl and Taylor Thibodeau; plaques: Lucas Kinney and Ron Lund; trophies: Barbosa, Cody Charette, Nick Pucci, Rossignol, Sandstrom and Wood; and jacket: Kovach.
