HOULTON – Louis E. Curry Jr., 87, who was born May 15, 1925, in Howe Brook, died June 20, 2012, surrounded by loved ones at a Bangor hospital. He was the son of Lewis E. Curry Sr. and Vivian (Porter) Curry.
Lou graduated from Island Falls High School, class of 1943, working at Island Falls Drug Store through his high school years. He relocated to Houlton and worked at S.L. White Drug Co. as an assistant pharmacist until 1968, when he became a registered pharmacist. He retired after 49 years of service in September 1992. He was a devout communicant of St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister. He was a longtime member of Knights of Columbus. In 1944, Lou was a patient and Josephine was a nurse at Madigan Memorial Hospital, where they met while he was recuperating from surgery. Lou and Jo were married at St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church, June 17, 1946. He enjoyed family gatherings, playing cribbage and following his favorite sports teams.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Josephine (McGillicuddy) Curry; children, the Rev. Terrence W. Curry, SJ, of Worcester, Mass., Susan Conlogue of Pittsford, N.Y., Ellen and Matt Libby of Castle Hill, Michael and Lucille Curry of Norwood, Mass., and Anne Curry-Smith and Mark of Mentor, Ohio; six grand-children, Sara (Conlogue) Tuccio and husband, Michael, Joseph Conlogue and wife, Krissy, Alison (Libby) Winslow and husband, Tim, Matthew J. Libby and wife, Jessica, Caroline Curry and fiance, Matthew Douville, and Thomas Curry; five great-grandchildren, Jack and Molly Tuccio, Kayla and Parker Libby, and Laurelai Winslow; brother, Philip Curry and wife, Polly; sisters, Joyce Curry and Dianne Curry; sisters-in-law, Donna Curry, Thelma Curry and Elaine McGillicuddy; brothers-in-law, Louis McGillicuddy, Con McGillicuddy and wife, Joanne; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lou was predeceased by his parents; infant daughter, Jane Elizabeth Curry; and siblings, Audrey Webb, James Curry, Everett Curry, JoAnn St. Pierre, Shirley England and Phyllis Taylor.
Calling hours began at 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, at St. Mary of the Visitation Church, 112 Military St., Houlton. A Mass of Christian burial began at noon with Father David Raymond officiating.
