Officials with the Greater Houlton Christian Academy have announced a recent grant award in the amount of $3,190 from the Orlie and Vicky Price Memorial Fund of the Maine Community Foundation for its high school science lab.
“I am looking forward to upgrading our science lab this summer,” explained Daniel Angotti, GHCA science teacher for nine years. “Upgrading and increasing our science equipment will enhance our curriculum and develop our students’ skills in many areas.”
In 2010, GHCA became accredited for a 10-year term by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, making it only the second Christian school in the state to become accredited. NEASC is the nation’s oldest accrediting association and is the organization that accredits public and private schools in the New England area. GHCA received Association of Christian Schools International accreditation at the same time, making the school dual-accredited. In addition, GHCA gained full “State Approved” status by the Maine Department of Education.
Since that time GHCA has been implementing recommendations set forth by NEASC. The recommendations are based on best practices for curriculum excellence and professional development.
“This grant will help us fulfill a recommendation to enhance our science lab,” said John Bishop, head of school. “We are grateful and pleased to receive this investment in our program.”
