Fourth of July celebration starts now

LIMESTONE, Maine — Though the big day’s still a week away, it’s never too early to kick off the Fourth of July Celebration in Limestone.

The week-long celebration started yesterday with patriotic events, and the fun continues right up to the iconic Fourth of July fireworks over Trafton Lake next Wednesday.

Limestone’s Fourth of July celebration gets bigger and better every year, including its Fourth of July Parade — the longest running parade in The County.

As of June 25, roughly 80 entries are scheduled to line up for the flag-waving parade, themed this year “Red, White and Blue Vibrations,” to inspire the most patriotic entries possible.

To help get people pumped up for the Fourth of July, Limestone’s Street Dance will be held on Tuesday, July 3 featuring “The Nadeau Family Band.”

Saturday, June 30, brings around family-fun activities for everyone; from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Albert Michaud Park, there’s an Antique Tractor Pull, a Teddy Bear Picnic, free Humvee rides provided by the Maine Military Authority and a wild water event, Hurricane Limestone, put on annually by the fire department.

Limestone’s Fourth Festival also boasts annual sporting events that yield a year’s worth of bragging rights for the winners; the Limestone Rotary Club Golf Tournament starts at 8 a.m. at the Limestone Country Club on June 30, followed by the annual Co-Ed Softball Tournament on Sunday morning — and it’s not too late to sign up!
