Holy Rosary Circle #638 Scribe
The Holy Rosary Circle #638 Daughters of Isabella held their last meeting until fall, on June 5 at 6 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Parish Center. This was an ice cream social enjoyed by all present.
A 50/50 raffle in the amount of $11.50 was won by the chaplain, Father Aaron Damboise, who in turn gave it back to the circle. Father Aaron led in the opening prayer. Father Aaron is leaving Parish of the Precious Blood, effective July 2, to serve in Lewiston. His message to our Circle this evening was Jesus is ever constant. We are to keep our eyes on Jesus. On behalf of the Circle a card and monetary gift was presented to Father for all his support to us and he asked us to keep him in prayer and likewise.
June, July and August birthdays were revealed with small birthday gifts going to Norma Shaw in June, Elizabeth Beaulieu in July and Phyllis Brown in August. Happy birthday was sung.
A thank-you letter was read from Scout Executor for our donation of $100 to their troop. A supper is being held June 8 and member Rena LaGasse will be attending on behalf of our Circle. A thank you was read from Elaine Haines for all the cards and prayers during the past month and also from Rena LaGasse, parish on-site coordinator for the donations to the reception on June 3 for the First Communion reception held after the morning Mass. An invitation came from St. Agnes Circle in Augusta to honor State Regent Jacqueline Dostie-Smith in September.
Cards were sent to Doris Albert, Lillian Keaton, Claire Randolph, Beverly McNeal, Elaine Haines and Theresa Cummings. Cards will be sent to Joan Bishop and Theresa Andrews.
Regent Gail Hjort spoke about the highlights of State Day held in Lincoln on May 19. Four members of our Circle attended and they were Gail Hjort, regent, Mary Ellen Field, vice-regent, Dolores D. Martin, scribe and Lena G. Dyer, auditor. A wonderful program highlighted the Day in keeping with the theme of Healing Hearts through Friendship, Unity and Charity. Every Daughter received a Blue Ribbon and were asked to pass it on as “Who I am makes a difference.” We were asked to give it to someone who means a lot to us. Regent Gail shared this with all members at our meeting tonight and we were each asked to go out and make a difference. The Memorial Mass for our deceased members of the past year included Lillie Ouellette, Florina Spencer, Lorraine St. Peter and Florence Young, who was past State Regent.
Our Circle came back home with several awards. They were a certificate of appreciation for our scrapbook and a certificate of appreciation for participating in the Queen Isabella Awards for which our Circle received the Crown award. Next year we are going to aim for the highest award, the Crown and Cross award. Member Elizabeth Beaulieu was recipient of $300 from our 40-week club at the annual drawing. Our theme basket for the State Convention to be held in Sanford next May is Mother’s Day.
Regent Gail went over the three proposals being considered at the International Convention in August.
A parish picnic will be held in Presque Isle June 24 at Mantle Lake. Members were asked to sign up for food and drinks. We would like to have four members on a committee from each circle. If interested, contact Gail Hjort.
A reception farewell will be held on June 17 to honor our chaplain, Father Aaron Damboise. Circle was asked to provide drinks, paper products, sweets and to set up.
Also Bishop Richard Malone of our diocese is being transferred to diocese of Buffalo, New York. A reception will be held for him here at Parish of the Precious Blood, Holy Rosary on Friday, July 6, starting with a Mass and reception to follow. Our Circle is being asked to bring finger foods for this event.
The Circle voted to continue for the coming year their fundraiser selling the Discount Cards. The new ones should be available for distribution to sell at our September meeting. The Circle also voted to donate $100 to TAIZE MINISTRY, which will be implemented at our parish soon.
Regent Gail thanked the refreshment committee consisting of Gail Hjort, Vi Sirois Cummings, Norma Shaw, Tammy Morin, Adeline Beaulieu and Rena LaGasse. We are encouraged to recruit new members for our Circle. We are open to any Catholic women over the age of 16. One of our new members, Rena LaGasse, shared how much she enjoyed being a member of the Circle and helping us in our works of Unity, Friendship and Charity.
Regent Gail Hjort and Vice-Regent Mary Ellen Fields will be attending the International Convention in Dearborn, Mich. the first week of August and they will come back with their highlights at our first fall meeting to be held Sept. 4. Regent Gail wished everyone a great summer.
