Now that school has let out for the summer, we just wanted to take a few moments to catch up with some end of the year happenings at Mill Pond.
On Friday, May 25, members of Monument Lodge #96 visited our students to draw the winners in the Bikes for Books contest. This is a reading incentive program for students in grades K-5. Kindergarten to grade 2 students needed to read three books to receive an entry ticket, while students in grades 3-5 were required to read two books to receive their entry ticket. So many students participated that committee members decided to award a total of six bikes and helmets: three girls and three boys. A small assembly full of excited students was held in the gym and lucky winners are pictured here with lodge members.

Academic awards were distributed during an assembly for grades 5-8. Students were recognized for academic achievements as well as their involvement in various clubs and activities. On June 6, administration, staff, family, and friends of the 31 students attended an eighth grade graduation. Blake Woods was awarded the Secretary of State Citizenship Award for his academics and involvement with sports teams and school government.
Summer school is planned to start on July 9 and complete on Aug. 2. Students and their families will be notified if they are required to attend.
As the aroma of freshly cut grass wafts through the window, I have a moment to reflect back on a very full year of activities and achievements within these walls. It has been a wonderful year here at the Pond. I look forward to keeping you up with what’s happening in our school, as we get closer to our start in the fall. Until then, I hope all staff, students, and families take the time to relax together a bit this summer and make some memories. All too quickly, our children are grown and gone. Take advantage of every opportunity and stay safe! See you in September!
