TAMC volunteers recognized at dinner
for years of service
PRESQUE ISLE — The Aroostook Medical Center recently held a special dinner celebration to recognize the years of service provided by its volunteer workforce. TAMC’s volunteers help the organization to provide quality customer service and care, while providing an important link to the community.

Ballerstein and Hull were two of the 122 volunteers recently recognized for their service to TAMC’s patients and employees.
In addition to recognizing volunteers’ invaluable contribution to TAMC’s patients and employees, a special milestone was also marked. TAMC has been celebrating 100 years of health care in Aroostook County this year. During this centennial year, TAMC Volunteer Services Manager Sherry Beaulieu is also celebrating 100 years of volunteer service to the organization.
“Hospital volunteering started in our organization with Mrs. Arthur Perry, a hospital ladies aide, who organized the first food and tea sale in 1912,” said Beaulieu. “She recruited many other community ladies and formed the first Ladies Auxiliary. People in the community have been volunteering their time and effort ever since.”
TAMC’s volunteers were recognized with certificates and pins for hours of service in 2011, total lifetime hours served, as well as years of service. Caroline Ballerstein and Maureen (Mo) Hull were both recognized for 22 years of service. Hull was also recognized for achieving 5,500 lifetime hours of service.
Last year, TAMC volunteers generously dedicated 13,935 hours of volunteer service. Many of TAMC’s community events, such as the fall health fair, would not be possible without involvement from volunteer staff.
Volunteers, who can range in age from teenagers to senior citizens, fill positions in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings including the Customer Service Desk, Gift Shop, Women and Children’s Unit, Communications and Development, Education and Innovation, Medical Library, Women’s Health Center, and many more. Volunteers also play an important role in health fairs and other TAMC events.
