Football clinic slated
The National Football League’s High School Player Development program is coming to Aroostook County.
The local program, sponsored by Aroostook Football, will be held Friday, June 15 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in Folsom 105 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and will continue from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. both Saturday, June 16 and Saturday, June 23 at Sincock Field in Caribou.
The HSPD is presented by the National Guard through the NFL Youth Football Fund. It provides participants with a curriculum that focuses on inspiring excellence in the classroom, community and playing field.
As part of the free program, the character development and life skills portion of the week features guest speakers and discussions on life after high school. Students will also take part in a Center for Disease Control session about player safety, including concussion treatment and management.
During each session, members of the National Guard will speak with participants about personal development and community service.
On-field components of the HSPD program include fundamental skill development by position, reviews and individual competitions. Players will focus on both an offensive and defensive position and eventually apply their newly-learned fundamentals to live drills.
Registration forms can be obtained by visiting aroostookfootball.org and clicking on the “HSPD forms” link. These forms must be brought to the clinic completed.
