Memorial Day events slated in Southern Aroostook

Oakfield plans parade, service
    American Legion Post 52 will hold a Memorial Day service and parade in Oakfield.
    There will be a ceremony honoring the fallen troops at the Oakfield Cemetery at 9 a.m. and from there, the group will meet at the Oakfield Community Center to get ready for a parade. After the parade, people may gather by Dan McNally’s to listen to the Southern Aroostook Community School band and another musical group from Bridgewater.
    During the day, there will also be a bake sale at the church.

Patten to hold cookout
    Main Street Flags Memorial Day cookout will be held on Monday, May 28 at the Patten park from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. On the menu will be hotdogs, hamburgers, chips and soda. Music will be provided by John, Cathy and Theresa.

Houlton to celebrate day
    The American Legion Post No. 47 in Houlton will hold its annual Memorial Day service at Solider Hill at 9 a.m. Monday, May 28. Following the service, a parade will take place at 10:30 a.m., with another service following at Monument Park.
    A free lunch will follow at the Post, located on Bangor Street. Veterans who wish to participate in the parade should contact the Post at 532-9046.
