Tim Guerrette, left, and Brian Lajoie, members of the local Red Knights Motorcycle Club, Maine Chapter 7, recently presented Erica Laplante, R.N. at Cary Medical Center, and co-director and coordinator of Cary’s Camp Adventure program with a $250 donation to assist with the annual week-long camp for teenagers who have type 1 diabetes.
The main goal of Camp Adventure is to provide a safe, exciting experience for campers, including participating in a variety of activities like hiking, camping, canoeing, biking, kayaking, swimming and cooking, while learning to monitor and self-manage their diabetes. The program will be celebrating its 15th-year anniversary this summer.
The Red Knights Motorcycle Club is comprised of local firefighters and family members who enjoy riding motorcycles, who promote motorcycle safety and sportsmanship. Through various fundraisers and club rides the group raises funds for several other projects, including the Aroostook County Fire Chief’s Learn Not To Burn Program, and provides assistance for burn victims from Aroostook County and their families, with transportation, food and lodging while they are receiving treatment at a burn facility.
“This is the Red Knights’ fifth donation to our camp and we are so grateful for their generous support,” Laplante said.
This year Camp Adventure will be held the week of June 17–22, at Baptist Park in Mapleton. For more information contact the Cary Medical Center Diabetes Education office at 498-1283 or e-mail Laplante at elaplante@carymed.org.
