Local father and son team take first in Adventure Race open division, second overall

    The  East Grand Adventure was held in Danforth Saturday with 53 participating in the 20-mile course which included a 1.5 compass run, 10 miles of mountain biking, 8.5 miles of paddling and a few extra challenges along the way including a tomahawk throw and gravel pit obstacle course.
    Orono High School students Yuval Boss and Calum were the overall winners with a time of 2:33:21, while East Grand’s Neil Noble and Logan Crone came in second in the High School boys division with a time of  3:01:37.
    In the High School girls division, first place went to the Orono High School team of Samantha Nedeau/ Kaylie Schmitt 3:16:59, while second was East Grand’s Chelsea Winairski/Kim Stoddard with a time of 3:18:59.

sp-advrace-dcx1-pt-20CLIMBING — Dana Morrison and Eric Young, both of Weston, took first place in the men’s division with a time of 3:05:00. Here the pair work their way up the gravel pit wall during the optional extra challenge along the way.

    First in the open division and second overall was the Apgar Family team from Danforth, David and son’s Peter and Billy with a time of 2:52:28. The trio chose to run the course as a relay team with David doing the compass run, Peter the biking, while David and Billy teamed up to do the canoeing.
    The father/son  team of Thomas and Dillon Beckum of Caribou came in first place in the Junior/Senior division and third overall with a time of 2:58:55. Henry and Malcolm Milligan of Ashland came in second in the Junior/Senior division with a time of 2:59:37 and Sam Mortinelli/Andrew Holt of Orono came in third with a time of 3:01:54.
    In the women’s division, Lauren Jacobs of Presque Isle and Tammi Matula of Weston came in first with a time of 3:07:50, while second was Fiona Hamilton/Janette Landis of Orono with a time of 3:34:52.
     First in the men’s division were Dana Morrison/ Eric Young of Weston with a time of  3:05:00 and second  place went to Greg Palm of Presque Isle and  Thomas Puzewski of Caribou with a time of 3:06:37.

     Race organizer Dave Conley extended thanks to the 40-plus volunteers who helped set up and clean up, manned check points, ran safety, kept scores, shuttled equipment and racers and donated food. A special thanks to the Danforth Fire Department and Dirigo Search and Rescue of Orono for running safety and sponsors including First Wind, Woodie Wheaton Land Trust and Ski Rack Sports of Bangor.
