The University of Maine at Presque Isle held one of its largest commencement exercises in recent years, with over 160 students taking part in the Class of 2012’s big event, held May 12 at Wieden Gymnasium.

Among those earning degrees were several Chinese students. Lijing Zhou — whose father traveled from China to see his daughter graduate — received a bachelor of arts degree, with a major in business administration. The university’s connections with schools in China has assisted SAD 1 in their efforts to make connections with Chinese K-12 students. Pictured from left are: Lijing Zhou; in back is Michael Sonntag, provost and president for academic affairs; UMPI President Don Zillman; and Laurie G. Lachance, president and CEO, Maine Development Foundation, who served as guest speaker.

(A story and more photos from UMPI’s 2012 graduation will appear in a future edition.)
