From the Bunkers: Houlton golf course is open

Houlton Community Golf Club has officially opened for the season and the course is already in excellent shape! We are very excited about this summer’s schedule of events.
    The Ladies League will be having their opening banquet on Tuesday, May 22 at the clubhouse. There will be a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. If you’d like to attend, please call the clubhouse to make your reservations. All lady golfers who are interested are invited to attend. The inaugural men’s supper for 2012 will be held on Thursday, May 31. If you would like to attend, please call the clubhouse to sign up.
The Men’s Twilight League will begin play on Monday, June 4. The field is limited to the first 30 teams to register and it is filling up fast! The deadline to sign up is Monday, May 28. There will be a mandatory meeting for all participants to discuss league rules and guidelines on Thursday, May 31 at 7 p.m. following the men’s supper. At least one member from each team must attend this meeting!
The tournament committee is working hard to put together a great schedule of events for this summer. The first tournament of the year will be the Memorial “Scramble” held on Saturday, June 9. This is an 18-hole, four-person scramble kicking off the year with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. I would also like to mention that the clubhouse is opening a brand new snack bar this year that will be serving lunches daily. “The Snack Shack” will be serving pub style food in the bar and on the deck all summer long and is open to all! Come join us for happy hours on the deck with our lake front view every Friday this summer, starting in June. We’ll be offering some fantastic appetizer and drink specials every Friday evening!
The summer months will be busy as always as the weather improves and vacations begin. We have lots of events going on at the course throughout the summer, but we do have openings every day for general play.
