DYER BROOK, Maine — Come July 1, RSU 50 will have a new superintendent to lead Southern Aroostook Community and Katahdin Middle/Senior High schools.
The  board hired Larry Malone, a former high school principal at SACS, during Monday night’s regular board meeting. Malone is currently the middle school principal at Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln.
Attempts to reach Malone for comment were not successful by press time.
“We’re very excited to have Larry join us,” said Philip Knowles, RSU 50 board chairman. “He came highly-recommended and we’re looking forward to his excitement and enthusiasm that he will bring to the position.”
Malone replaces John Doe, who has served as the interim superintendent since the SAD 25 (Katahdin) and CSD 9 (Southern Aroostook) merged administrative services and became RSU 50 in February, 2011.
Doe, who retired from SAD 25 in June 2010, was brought back to the district in order to help see the consolidation process through. Once the consolidation was completed, he agreed to remain as the interim superintendent until a permanent replacement was found.
“John has done an exceptional job helping us through the whole consolidation of administrative services and we thank him for that,” Knowles said.
