Administrators at the Caribou Regional Technology Center have announced that Jacob Beaupre has been selected as the 2012 Outstanding Career and Technology Education Student of the Year. Jacob is the son of Jennifer and Jerry Beaupre of Caribou.
According to large equipment instructor Tom Huston, “Jacob has a good work attitude, is responsible, reliable and is a great leader. He has a natural ability to operate heavy equipment and has a Maine state commercial drivers license.” “Jacob is always willing to go the extra mile, not only doing what is asked of him, but he also helps his fellow students along the way,” Huston added.
A few of Beaupre’s hobbies include riding a four-wheeler and working with his father on their antique tractor. He is a volunteer fireman for the Caribou Fire Department and has volunteered many hours at the American Legion painting and doing carpentry work. He has also worked 25 to 40 hours per week while going to school and taking a college English class.
Beaupre and guests attended an Honors dinner at the Lewiston Regional Technology Center on Saturday May 5; at which time one outstanding student from each of the 27 technology centers in Maine were recognized.
The Maine Administrators of Career and Technical Education (MACTE) awarded three $1000 scholarships and Congressman Mike Michaud awarded a fourth.
“Jacob has been a great asset to the large equipment, commercial drivers license and welding programs at the Caribou Technology Center,” stated Ralph Conroy, director at the Caribou Tech Center. “He has been accepted into the Diesel Hydraulics Program at the Northern Maine Community College for next year where he will surely he will be an asset to their program,” he added.
