Ricker Rumblings
By Lois Downing
We are having a sunny day here in Houlton, Maine. Let’s hope the weather is favorable in other parts of the country. We are so blessed we have no floods, fires, sinkholes, avalanches, etc.
Paul Armstrong is proud of his granddaughter, who recently graduated from Husson College in Bangor.
Mike Tuttle has recently returned from Florida, having reported a good time.
When I returned from my New Hampshire trip recently, I found on my apartment door a beautiful May basket. Now I know who to thank— Dot Campbell, a friend on the second floor. Thanks, Dot.
Dot Weston is a tenant at Madigan and her friends say she is getting along nicely.
The fiddleheads will be out shortly, if not already. Many will be picking them.
Carmen Chasse’s daughter was a visitor of her mother over the weekend.
Just want to say ‘’Hello’’ to Lillian Stairs, a patient at Houlton Regional Hospital.
Kathryn Hall was a Saturday visitor of her mother, Lois Downing.
The month of May is traveling right along. Can you believe it is May already?
Something to look forward to: The University of Maine Cooperative Extension girls are back! They will perform easy-to-make herbed turkey burgers on Thursday, May 17 at 12:30. This is for the residents. They will also teach summer food safety.
The store clerks have told us that the new Yankee Grocer will open for business Monday, May 14. We have watched it grow and will look forward to its grand opening.

A note about angels: ‘’If ever you feel your arms are too short to reach for the heavens, fear not, for there will always be an angel reaching out to meet you halfway.’’
God bless. Have a wonderful week, filled with love and fun.

Island Fall’s News
There will be an informational meeting, open to the public, held at the Island Falls Fish and Game Club on May 12, at 1:30 p.m. The topic will be whether or not Island Falls should have a wind ordinance concerning wind farms, and will be presented by Randall Fairman, who is from Dixmont, Maine, a small town similar to Island Falls, which has gone through the process of creating a wind ordinance in order to create guidelines, which is the right of the voter to understand.
Whether you are for or against wind development in our area, this meeting will be a great opportunity to understand the factors involved before being voted on, and how you can have a voice and say in the matter.
I received a note from my sister in New Hampshire and she has recently visited the coast of Massachusetts. While there, she took a tour through different old homes and enjoyed a seashore dinner or two. The weather cooperated and there was no fog or rain.
John and Shelly Stevens have recently consulted their optometrist and soon both will be showing up with new glasses. Am still enjoying the swimming at Vacationland Estates, along with friend John White, from Smyrna, and we both expect our mutual friend, Doris Pankratz, who will be arriving sometime in May to be joining us soon. I haven’t seen any thing of the deer lately, but sure have lots of hungry birds still around. Still take out sunflower seeds for all and also the peanut butter and lard mixture as it has been so cold. The woodpeckers really wait for me to leave this mixture and when I leave they are right there eating it as fast as they can. Still throw out bread crumbs for the big crows and the deer, too, and that usually disappears rapidly, too.
