Big inning propels PI softball to the win against Houlton

    The second week of the high school softball season was a little busier than the first, with only a few weather postponements. Caribou continued their impressive play and Presque Isle got a big win over Houlton.

Here’s a recap of games played through Monday:

Hodgdon 6, Fort Fairfield 5 — The Fort Fairfield Tigers dropped a close game Monday at home to the Hodgdon.

The Hawks rallied with two runs in the seventh to earn the win.

Fort Fairfield took a 4-3 lead after three innings before Hodgdon tied it in the fourth. Fort Fairfield responded with a run in the sixth before Hodgdon’s game-winning rally.

Kim Levesque singled twice for 2-1 Hodgdon and Danaka Welton doubled.

Sydney Churchill doubled, singled and drove in a run for the 1-1 Tigers. Emily Blaisdell added a triple and single.

    Central Aroostook 12, Madawaska 5 — At Mars Hill Thursday, Vicki McIntyre had two doubles , a triple, and 2 RBI’S to lead the Panthers to the win over Madawaska.

Paige Garrison, Page Fletcher and Whitnie Bradbury each had two hits for the Panthers.

Carly Grass scattered five hits over seven innings to earn the victory.

    LCS/MSSM 29, Ashland 26 — It was a slugfest in Limestone on Thursday as the Eagles and Ashland Hornets combined for 55 runs.

Stephanie Leighton had a grand slam, three singles and finished with five RBIs to propel the Eagles to victory.

Kelsee Albert chipped in with four singles, a double and three RBIs for the winners and Melissa Cantafio added a home run, double, and single for four RBIs. Danielle Pelkey and Ellyzabeth Bencivenga each recorded two singles and two RBIs.

Kayla Cote paced Ashland with three singles and drove in two runs while Rachael Gillis added two singles and  two RBIs. Anna Paradis contributed a double and single and Shea Craig singled twice.

Presque Isle 20, Houlton 5 — Presque Isle used a big second inning, scoring 12 runs, to cruise past the Houlton Shiretowners, 20-5, in their home opener on Wednesday.

Courtney Colligan paced Presque Isle with three singles.

Megan Hannigan hit a home run in the first inning for Houlton.

Fort Fairfield 21, Ashland 9 —Fort Fairfield opened up their season with a 21-9 win over the visiting Ashland Hornets on Tuesday, April 24.

Rebekah Pelkey singled and stole three bases to help the Tigers to the win. Camille Huffman added a triple for Fort Fairfield.

Marissa Chasse hit a two-run home run for 0-2 Ashland.
