Summer rec programs being offered

    The Houlton Parks and Recreation will be holding its summer registrations for youth programs  for Houlton residents only on Tuesday, May 1 from 5:30-7 p.m.
    Open Registrations for Houlton residents, as well as non-Houlton residents, will begin on Wednesday, May 2 and Thursday, May 3 from 8:30-5 p.m.
    All registrations will be accepted until June 1; however, several programs have limited registrations, so early registration is encouraged. All registrations will be held at the Gentle Memorial Building; no telephone registrations will be accepted.
    The Summer Flyer has been distributed through the local schools systems or flyers may be picked up at the recreation department. The Houlton Parks and Recreation Department tries to keep their programs at an affordable level for all residents.
    Programs being offered this summer are: “Just for Kids” summer playground; youth swim lessons; youth tennis lessons: Hershey Track & Field; Pitch, Hit and Run competition: T-Ball for ages 5-6: First Pitch for ages 7-8; Dutch Soccer Academy Soccer Camp: youth basketball camp; junior girls softball; Sneakin’ In Science; youth soccer clinic; Lemonade Day Maine event; and Discount Tickets for Funtown/Splashtown and Sea Dogs.

Fitness classes offered
    The Houlton Recreation Department will be offering two new sessions of fitness classes. All classes require a registration by April 24. The classes being offered will run for six weeks and they are as follows:
    Zumba — This class will be on each Tuesday and Thursday at 6:15 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. Rachel Distefano is the instructor. Cost is $45 for Houlton residents and $60 for non-Houlton residents. Participants should wear sneakers and comfortable clothes.
    Pilates — This class will begin on Tuesday, May 1. Classes will be held each Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p.m. Yvonne Hyman will be the instructor. Cost will be $30 for Houlton residents and $45 for non-Houlton residents. Participants should bring their own mat and hand weights.
