LIMESTONE — While Limestone’s coffers are by no means overflowing, Selectperson Jimmy Pelletier adamantly expressed his opinion during the board’s April 18 meeting that the town needs to utilize the funds they do have to start making improvements around Limestone.

“Reason being, we need to show the community — both the business side and the public sector — that we’re working with what we have,” Pelletier told his fellow board members, mentioning that the town doesn’t have a lot in the way of funding but needs to start getting their feet moving.

Small improvements Pelletier recommended included extending the sidewalk downtown to reach the pond, putting in view-shed screening and fencing at different locations, leveling off the site of the former Main Street gas station and covering it with loam and grass before the Fourth of July — he even suggested naming a town tree, as suggested during past Downtown Revitalization Committee meetings.

Pelletier said the town could possibly utilize funding in the economic development account to begin making small improvements throughout the community.

“I would like to see us get going on some of these things,” Pelletier added. “Instead of just waiting for someone to give us money to do something, use what little bit we got,” he said, mentioning how doing a little bit at a time makes a real difference over time.

The selectpeople also discussed Limestone’s current service contract with Crown Ambulance. During the past few months, more and more town members have been expressing dissatisfaction with long wait-times and Limestone’s ambulance spending too much time serving neighboring communities. Board members discussed the current ambulance situation, and Town Manager Donna Bernier reaffirmed to the board that the requested proposal to find how much it would cost to utilize the Caribou Ambulance Department to serve  Limestone’s ambulatory needs wouldn’t be available until approximately May 1.

The next meeting of the Limestone Selectpeople is scheduled for Wednesday, May 2 at the Limestone Municipal Building at 6:30.
