Mapleton queens crowned at pageant

    PRESQUE ISLE — Under the bright lights of the Presque Isle High School auditorium stage, five Mapleton queens and one princess were crowned April 7 at the 2012 Mapleton pageant.

    Earning titles were Delaney Alward, Little Miss Mapleton; Paige McHatten, Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton; Victoria Williamson, Junior Miss Mapleton; Hannah Guerrette, Teen Miss Mapleton; and Sarah McEachern, Miss Mapleton. Awarded the title of Mapleton’s Little Princess was Libby Kinney.

    All the contestants joined the 2011 Mapleton queens in the opening number. They danced to “One,” which was choreographed by Jacqueline Lambert, a member of the Class of 2014. The theme of this year’s pageant was Broadway.

    The girls competed in the Casual Wear/Modeling Walk, Talent, Party Wear and Evening Wear categories. Awards were also given for photogenic, high ticket sales, interview and friendship/congeniality.

Competing for the Little Miss title were:

    LIBBY KINNEY, who was named Mapleton’s Little Princess at the April 7 Little Miss, Pre-Teen Miss, Junior Miss, Teen Miss and Miss Mapleton pageant, smiles at the judges during the Casual Wear/Modeling Walk portion of the competition. • Delaney Alward, daughter of Wendy and Chris Maple and David Alward. She presented a monologue entitled “Circus Wonders” by Gerrie Benzing. In addition to the Little Miss title, Alward also received the interview award.

• Libby Kinney, daughter of Kevin and LeRae Kinney. She performed a dance routine to “Party Rock Anthem.” Kinney was crowned Mapleton’s Little Princess and received the high ticket sales award.

    PAIGE McHATTEN, who was crowned Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton April 7, shows off her outfit during the Casual Wear/Modeling Walk portion of the competition. • Jaidyn Blake, daughter of Jeff and Jolene Blake. She sang “Fireflies” by the Owl City Band.

• Katelyn Amero, daughter of Scott and Laurie Amero. She performed a clogging routine to “You Should Be Dancing” by the Bee Gees.

• Paige McHatten, daughter of Matt and Kelly McHatten. She performed a jazz dance routine to “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” by the cast of “Glee.” In addition to being named Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton, McHatten received the interview and the Little Miss/Pre-Teen Miss photogenic awards.

• Elizabeth Collins, daughter of Darren and Michelle Collins, who performed a ballet dance en pointe to “Drops of Jupiter” by Train. Collins received the friendship award and was named Pre-Teen first runner-up.

Junior Miss contestants included:

    VICTORIA WILLIAMSON, who was crowned Junior Miss Mapleton, was all smiles during the Evening Wear competition of the April 7 pageant. In addition to being crowned Junior Miss Mapleton, Williamson received the interview and photogenic awards.

     GRACE BRALEY, a contestant in the Junior Miss Mapleton division, sang “Ours” by Taylor Swift for her talent in the April 7 pageant.

• Victoria Williamson, daughter of Theodore and Marla Williamson. She presented a lyrical dance to “Little Wonders” by Rob Thomas. In addition to being crowned Junior Miss Mapleton, Williamson received the interview and photogenic awards.

• Grace Braley, daughter of Glendon and Anne Braley. She sang “Ours” by Taylor Swift.

• Shaye McHatten, daughter of Matt and Kelly McHatten, who performed a lyrical ballet dance to “Safe and Sound” by Taylor Swift from the movie “The Hunger Games.”

• Michaela Dubé, daughter of Valerie Black. Dubé sang “Hallelujah” by Alexandra Burke, and was named Junior Miss first runner-up.

Teen Miss contestants were:

      HANNAH GUERRETTE performed a jazz dance routine to “Mister Zoot Suit” by The Flying Neutrinos for her talent during the Teen Miss Mapleton pageant. She was crowned Teen Miss Mapleton and received interview, the Teen/Miss photogenic and congeniality awards.

• Logan Caron, daughter of Buffy Hafford and Keith Caron. She presented a hip-hop dance routine to “Switch” by Will Smith. Caron was named Teen Miss first runner-up.

• Bobbie-Sioux Murchison, daughter of Kathleen and Bill Murchison. She presented a self-composed poem for her talent.

    KALI WARNER, a contestant in the Miss Mapleton pageant, was all smiles as she modeled her evening gown during the April 7 pageant, which also served as a fundraiser for the Presque Isle High School Class of 2014.     SARAH McEACHERN clogged to “This Is How a Heart Breaks” by Rob Thomas for her talent during the recent Miss Mapleton pageant. McEachern, who was crowned the new Miss Mapleton, also received the interview award.

• Kali Warner, daughter of Mike and Tina Warner, who performed a contemporary lyrical dance routine to “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri.

• Sarah McEachern, daughter of Bruce McEachern and Pamela McEachern. She clogged to “This Is How a Heart Breaks” by Rob Thomas. McEachern, the new Miss Mapleton, also received the interview award.

    2011 queens Little Miss Mapleton Madelyn Buzza, Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton Sarah Craig, Junior Miss Mapleton Emma Langille and Teen Miss Mapleton Rachel Dow all performed during the pageant, as well.

    The pageant was sponsored by Presque Isle High School’s Class of 2014, which decided to give back to the community by sponsoring the scholarship that was given to the new Miss Mapleton. Sophomores Issac Estey and Clarissa Buck served as the evening’s emcees.

    The new Mapleton queens will represent the community at the Maine Potato Blossom pageants in July.
