AR George Cynthia JohnsonG. Dennis Johnson, born on June 27, 1953, to Evelyn Arey Johnson and Theodore Gilman Johnson and his loving wife Cynthia Ann Chassie Johnson, born on October 25, 1952, to Perley and Leona Chassie, were killed in a head-on collision on March 31, 2012. Cindy and Dennis were married on September 25, 1976, and therefore they had been married for 36 years at the time of their accident. They leave behind three sons, Dustin James Johnson and his wife Cory Noddin Johnson, Dylan Jared Johnson and his companion Kayla Knowles, and also an infant granddaughter Kaylan Sierra Johnson, also their youngest son, Denton Joseph Johnson.

Cynthia Chassie Johnson was the daughter of Perley and Leona Chassie of Caribou. She was predeceased by her father, Perley, in 1994. She is survived by her mother, Leona Chassie; her oldest brother, James Chassie and his wife Tobi Chassie; her younger sister Michelle Chassie Cummings and brother-in-law Jeffrey Cummings. Cindy leaves behind one nephew, Derek Chassie; three nieces, Karen Chassie, Hannah Chassie and Mollie Marie Cummings. She also leaves behind many cousins. Cindy attended schools in Caribou and was very active in cheerleading and also in baton. She won the title of Miss Junior Princess of Maine, and also was the captain of her cheerleading squad both during high school and when she attended the University of Maine in Bangor where she earned her liberal arts degree.

After graduating from Sumner Memorial High School, Dennis also attended the University of Maine in Bangor and continued playing basketball for the University team, as he had played throughout his four years at Sumner. Cindy and Dennis met during college, and after graduating with her degree in Liberal Studies, Cindy and Dennis went to work for a wood preserving company out of New York, named Osmose. This job gave them the opportunity to travel all over the United States and work side-by-side.

After about five years, they started thinking about settling down and raising a family so they bought some land down on the Pigeon Hill Road in Steuben. Together with family and friends they built their first home. They dug blood worms side-by-side seasonably, and then Dennis acquired his own mussel dragger. As he was well known for both his nautical skills and his mechanical skills, he became successful at his new profession, and eventually he and Cindy owned their own mussel processing company, Superior Mussel. Throughout a twelve year period, they brought three healthy sons into the world. Cindy and Dennis were very involved and happy parents, as their family was their world! As their boys were growing up, Den and Cindy kept busy attending all their sons’ sporting events and other activities, and took great pride in all of their sons’ achievements. In the last few years, Den retuned to blood worming, as it afforded him the opportunity to spend more time with Cindy, his boys and their new granddaughter. Cindy was able to achieve one of her lifetime goals of becoming a C.N.A. She was employed at Golden Acres Nursing Home where she was dearly loved by all of her patients.

Both families are aware that Cindy and Den were “soul mates.” They were always together, they traveled together, worked together, built their home together, and raised their family together. As in life, so too in death, they entered the next life hand in hand. Forever.

Dennis was predeceased by his mother, Evelyn Arey Johnson and his father, Theodore Gilman Johnson.; also by three older sisters, Sheryl-Lou Davies, Mary E. Jacobs, Christine E. Rivers, and recently an older brother, Theodore G. Johnson Jr. Dennis leaves behind three siblings, Kittridge A. Johnson and his wife Bernice of Winter Harbor; Fred B. Johnson of Steuben and his youngest sister, Denise Johnson Huntington and her husband Herbert R. Huntington of Steuben. He is also survived by many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins.

(In life they were together, in death he’s still her mate, Two loves remain together, two hearts have shared one fate!)

A memorial service was held on April 15, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon at the Winter Harbor Grammar School Gym for Cindy and Dennis Johnson.
