Kiwanis Club hosting benefit supper

    The Kiwanis Club of Easton will be holding a benefit supper for a young man in the community, Nicholas Donavan, on Saturday, April 28, from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Easton Elementary School cafeteria.

    All funds donated at this supper will go to Nick and his family to build a ramp on their home to assist Nick get in and out of the home. Nicholas Donovan is the son of Marilyn and Mike Brown of Easton. Nick is in his mid-30s and has Huntington Chorea, a degenerative disease that attacks the central nervous system. There is no known cure. Although this disease affects women, it mainly affects males.

    Nicholas’ father died from this disease. Nick is the father of twins, Landon and Brandon.

 

Church puppet team performs

    The Easton Wesleyan Church puppet team, “Hands and Feet Ministries,” was recently a part of the first Maine Puppetry Festival held in Hermon.

    The festival was put on by Creative Ministries Solutions. The Easton team was the feature performance team for the weekend, presenting a stick drama to “Silent Night” from Veggie Tales, a dramatization to “The Motion” by Matthew West and two puppet songs, “Get Hot Stay Hot” and “Hands and Feet” by Audio Adrenalive.

    Members of the team, led by Pastor Vaughn Martin, presented four workshops: Basic Puppetry 101, Puppet Song Performances, Stick Drama and How to Use Props, Costumes and Backdrops to Create a Theme.

    The team included: Pastor Vaughn, Melissa Corbin, Bonnie Dewitt, Brad and Holly Nadeau, Kerrigan Arnett, Alex Allen, Sara Gilman, Elise Allen, Haley Amaro, Caitlyn Monroe, Toria Tarbox and Katelyn White.

    It was a great weekend of ministry and training.

 

Students of the Month

    The Easton Jr./Sr. High School announced the Students of the Month for the month of March are Elise Allen and Cody Stewart.

 

School registration

    Easton School Department is now accepting registration for children entering kindergarten or ECP in the fall of 2012. All Easton children who are 5 years old on or before Oct. 15 are eligible for enrollment in the kindergarten class. All Easton children who are 4 years old on or before Oct. 15 are eligible for the ECP ( Early Childhood Program) class. Call the Easton Elementary School at 488-7700 to register your child for either of the above classes. The following documents are required by the state of Maine: proof of immunizations and birth certificate hospital copies are not acceptable. These documents must be presented prior to the child beginning school.

 

Rec calendar

    Wednesday, April 18 — Dodge ball tournament at the Presque Isle Rec Department.  This will be another fun morning of competitions. We will be going out to lunch after, please send money. This is open to grades 3 thru 8 only! Please wear an Easton shirt. Departure time TBA.

    Thursday, April 19 — Kick ball tournament at the Caribou Rec Department. This will be a fun afternoon of competitions.  We will be going out to lunch; please send money. This is open to grades 3 thru 6 only! Please wear an Easton shirt. We will call for rides on the way home. Departure time TBA.

    Friday, April 20 — We will start the day at the Maple Moose in Easton where we will tour the maple syrup facility and enjoy a maple syrup pop. The cost is $2. The trip will be from 9:45-11:45 a.m. Swimming at Limestone Community Schools. There is no fee for this program but children must be able to swim the width  of the pool to be in the water without an adult; 12:15-3:40 p.m. If your child is going to both the Maple Moose and swimming, please send a bag lunch and they may stay through. 

    Monday, April 23 — Senior Nutrition Class starting at 11 a.m. in the Recreation Room at the Manor. The cost is $3. First kindergarten swim lessons; this program is full! Movie Day after school at the Hall until 4:15 p.m. 

    Tuesday, April 24 — “Cookin Cookies” with Chris Finnemore from 3 to 4:15 p.m. at the Hall.
