115 Years Ago: April 1, 1897

• Potatoes were 55 cents per barrel today.

• Mrs. N.M. Lowney made a score of 173 at the bowling parlor Monday. It is the highest record made by a lady in this town.

100 Years Ago: March 28, 1912

• The U.S. Civil Service Commission announced that on April 27, an examination will be held at Stockholm for the position of fourth-class postmaster at an office to be established by the name of Square Lake.

• George Hurd died at his home in Limestone Monday at the age of 71. He was a veteran of the Civil War.

• H.P. Todd is moving into his fine new residence on Thomas Avenue recently purchased by him of O.L. Atherton.

• In Stockholm it is understood that a restaurant will soon be opened in Carlstrom’s Hall by Coates of Caribou.

75 Years Ago: April 1, 1937

• Clarence Bouchard and Norman Chasse each received prizes for standing the longest in the Stockholm school spelling match Friday afternoon.

• The traffic light at the corner of Main and Sweden streets was put in operation again last week on the resumption of better traveling conditions on the Main Street hill. It now must be recognized by six motorists. The only time it is off duty is when slippery conditions on the hill make starting and stopping difficult.

• Jack Doughty of the mechanical staff of the Presque Isle Star-Herald, was at the Republican office Friday, running a job on the largest job press of the Republican office. It might be mentioned that the press is the largest jobber in the county and can handle much work that in many offices has to be put on the cylinder presses.

• Ethelmae Currier of this town has been honored by being made vice president of her sorority Delta Delta Delta at the University of Maine.
