Seniors visit a maple house
EASTON NEWS
by Debbie Smith
Easton senior citizens took a trip recently to Canada to visit the Sugar Moon Cookhouse. They took a bus from Easton, driven by Dellas Adams. They were served a nice breakfast with homemade maple syrup —yummy! They were also able to make their own maple sugar candy. They had a lot of fun.
Students of the Month
Delia Bonner
is the sixth-grade daughter of John and Theresa Bonner. Delia is a hard-working student at Easton Elementary School who sets high standards for herself and is a great role model for her peers. She is kind and trustworthy and is an active member of the Bears Club.
Jackson McDowell
is in second grade in Mrs. Lavway’s class in Easton. He is the son of Rob and Julie McDowell. Jackson is an excellent student and consistently works hard in the classroom. He is a great friend to his classmates and exhibits wonderful citizenship skills on a regular basis.

Relaxing at a restaurant while attending the one-act play are chaperone Vaughn Martin, bus driver Vance Smith and play director Debbie Rooney.
Collecting Box Tops
The EPCO are still collecting Box Tops. If you have any, please don’t throw them away. Bring them in to the elementary school or send them to school with your child.
Penny drive
The EPCO March penny drive is winding down, but you still have lots of time to get your money in. It is called a “penny drive,” although they would love to have your dollars. Classes receive a bonus reward for the most rolled coins (anything members do not have to roll, such as dollar bills and checks or already rolled coins).
The weekly totals for each class are divided by the number of students in that class. This makes it a level collecting field for every class, no matter their size.
This is one of the few fundraisers the organization holds each year. This year we will begin to focus our fund-raising efforts on a long-term goal. We will begin saving pennies for the purchase of new cafeteria tables. This will benefit the entire school population as well as community organizations that use the cafeteria. We have also been asked to help the high school with the purchase of new lockers which have been in that building for many years.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Sympathy
Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Fred Wilcox who passed away this week. Fred will be sadly missed by the community as he was a resident for many years.
Easter breakfast
Easton Recreation Department’s annual Easter Community Breakfast & Egg Hunt is this weekend. It’s become an annual tradition to usher in spring with a community breakfast followed by an Easter egg hunt for children in 6th grade and under. This year it will be held on March 31. Breakfast will be served at 9:30 a.m. in the elementary school cafeteria, with the egg hunt to follow (inside or outside depending on the weather). There are 2,000 eggs ready to go — bring a basket or bag to collect your goodies.
Two Easter baskets will be raffled. The breakfast (French toast sticks, bacon and hash browns, juice and coffee) is open to the entire community; a donation will be taken to help cover the cost of food and supplies. Please contact the Rec Department via e-mail or Facebook so we know how many to plan for. There will also be some special guests on hand to meet and greet the children; don’t forget your camera!
Kindergarten-only programs
Swim lessons — Children in kindergarten (and those 4 and older who are not in ECP) will have the opportunity to take swim lessons on Mondays from April 23 through May 21. We will leave directly after their 1 o’clock dismissal and return in time to ride the after-school buses home. If any parents are available to help chaperone, it would be greatly appreciated. The cost is $17.50, please make checks payable to the Town of Easton. Must have a minimum of five participants to offer this program.
Zumbatomic and Play Time — Children in kindergarten (and those 4 and older who are not in ECP) will have the opportunity to try out Zumbatomic on Wednesdays from April 4 through May 23 (no class on May 9). The kids will stay after school for snack and play time and a 45-60 minute Zumba class with Theresa Bonner. The cost is $12, please make checks payable to the Town of Easton. Must have a minimum of five participants to run this program.
Co-ed softball teams sought
Last year we brought back an adult co-ed softball league and it was a hit, to say the least. The Rec Department would like to get a feel for how many teams will participate this year and have a captains’ meeting by mid-April. Please call Hillary at 488-6601 or e-mail eastonrec@myfairpoint.net if you have interest in participating or sponsoring a team. The league/games will begin in early May.
Gymnastics start soon
All-Star Gymnastics will be to teaching a six-week series of gymnastics classes on Wednesdays, April 4 through May 23 (no class on April 18 or May 9). The cost is $35 for all six weeks. Classes will be held at the gym in Mars Hill. The bus will depart directly after school and return to the Hall by 4:30 p.m. This program is open to children ages 4 and up.
