The Things I Do

By Taylor Michaud

The things I do to keep this place clean
The things I do to get respect
The things I do to make a living
The things I do to keep my job
The things I do to stay where I am
The things I do and get in return
The things I do all day and night
The things I do to keep my boss happy
The things I do to keep everything clean
The things I do all year … is clean
The things I’ll do in the future
The things I did in the past
Just to keep my job.

Appearances Don’t Matter

By Leslie Meija

Why are models always skinny
What’s wrong with heavy people
Models are a big influence on teen girls
Many teen girls wish to be models
But there is one thing in their way
Their size
Teens are putting their health at risk
But many are already at a perfectly healthy weight
Millions are bulimic, or anorexic
They try to change the way they are
To be someone they’re not
But what they don’t know
Is that they are beautiful just the way they are
Teen girls strive to be stick thin
But sometimes it gets out of control
The media is a big part of this
It’s sad
That everyone is focused on looks
It’s sad
That people can’t see someone for who they are
Not by what they look like
I hope that one day we will see people for who they are
Not by what they look like

Regrets

By Kaitlyn LePage

I’m standing alone
Knowing I’ve made mistakes
But now she is gone
I’ve lost her
And I can’t tell her that …
I’m sorry

So here I am standing alone
Smelling the ocean’s sweet mist
This was her favorite place
I regret not taking her here more often
The ocean water splashes up
I’m drenched
But I don’t care

I dropped everything
Just to make sure she was okay
I guess it didn’t matter
Because she is gone

I tried to tell her everything
Say things I wouldn’t if I knew she was still here
I forgot to say just one thing
The thing I regret most
And that was …
“I love you.”

Retirement

By Liam Daniels

He sees many stars.
With his telescope in hand,
He begins to search.

The fall air is cool.
He doesn’t notice the cold.
He is too relaxed.

He is retired.
At age sixty-five, time slows.
He takes it all in.

His granddaughter came.
She takes a lot of pictures.
She wants one of him.

A nonchalant pose
Is what he does to be hip.
She says, “Be yourself.”

With a bearded grin,
One hand on his telescope.
He relaxes more.

A white flash appears.
He tries not to close his eyes.
His granddaughter laughs.

He starts laughing too.
He likes retirement now.
It’s enjoyable.
