Local hotshots fare well in state final

PORTLAND — The Maine Recreation and Parks Association held the State Hotshot Contest Sunday, March 11 at the Portland Expo Center in Portland and some local youngsters fared extremely well.

Representing Aroostook County in the State Contest and placing as the runner-up for the girls 11-12 age division was Madison Doucette of Caribou with a score of 104.

Dawson Hebert from Caribou in the boys 11-12 division got to shoot an extra round during a tie breaker and shot a 55 point round to win his division. His final score was 122-55.  

Donovan Savage of Caribou also had a close round beating his competitor by five points with a score of 140 through his three rounds.

Emmy Churchill of Washburn in the 13-15 girls division upset her opponent by two points to win with a score of 102.

The Maine Red Claws, a franchise basketball team affiliated with the Boston Celtics, helped sponsor the event. The participants, while at the competition, were also able to watch the Red Claws play one of their season games.
