EASTON – Fred F. Wilcox, 82, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at a local hospital. Fred was born in Wade on March 23, 1929, the youngest son of the late William and Mertie (Drost) Wilcox. He was a resident of Easton for the past 50 years+. During that time, he was employed at Rathbun Lumber in Presque Isle, Valhsing and McCains plants in Easton, and by the Lundeen Farms in Mars Hill.
When he wasn’t working, Fred enjoyed many road trips throughout the area, watching the deer herds come out in Ashland and Portage Lake, watching the leaves change color in the fall, eating out in the local restaurants and stopping for those “Wilcox short visits” with family and friends. He loved spending time at his “farm” in Easton, mowing grass, cutting brush, keeping the road to the lake open.
He is survived by sons, Roger Wilcox and his wife, Lorraine (Flanagan) Wilcox of Westfield, and Rodney Wilcox of Mars Hill; two daughters, Lona LaFrancis and her husband, Fred of Castle Hill, and Lisa Tompkins of Easton; seven grandchildren, Stacy Hickey, Brittany and Katelyn Tompkins of Easton, Megan Wilcox, T.J. Turley and Zachary Wilcox of Mars Hill, and Hannah Kilcollins of Wade; two brothers, Merle Wilcox of Woodland and Sterling Wilcox and his friend, Doris of Wade; sisters-in-law, Madeline Wilcox of Mapleton, and Angie Johnston of Easton; and special nephew, Bill Page of Easton.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Christine (Johnston) Wilcox; brothers, Beecher and Arnold Ambrose, and Roy Wilcox; sisters, Fern Farley, Hazel Page, Addie Page, Laura Carter, Susie Brockman, and Betty, Ruth, and Daisy Wilcox.
A celebration of his life will be held in Easton, after his interment in Estes Park Cemetery in the spring. Online condolences may be expressed at www.duncan-graves.com
