Members of the Caribou High School Technology Center’s Marketing Club (DECA — Distributive Education Clubs of America) recently participated in the annual state competition held in Portland, where more than 100 students from around the state competed in a variety of categories testing their level of knowledge and understanding of different business and marketing functionalities. In addition to the competition, the students also participated in team building and leadership training sessions.

Each of the eight students from Caribou placed in the competition. “This is a great reflection of the students’ efforts and the program offered here at the Technology Center,” stated Reed Nonken, instructor for the CTC marketing and business program. “Many of these students who placed at the state event are invited to participate in the National DECA Competition being held this year in Salt Lake City, where they will have the opportunity to compete against 1,500 other top students from around the country as well as take part in a variety of marketing, business and leadership seminars,” Nonken added.
DECA is an organization that enhances the co-curricular education of students with interests in marketing, management and entrepreneurship. DECA assists students in developing skills and competence for marketing and business careers, building self-esteem, experience leadership and practice community service.
Those students achieving state-level awards included Mallorie Cyr, Chelsea Martin, Sabrina Haney, Elisha Willey, Jessica Devoe, Danielle Akerson, Nickolas Matlock and Cole Plourde.
