Parent named TAMC’s director of advancement
PRESQUE ISLE — The Aroostook Medical Center (TAMC) recently welcomed noted Aroostook County advocate Jason Parent to the organization as director of advancement.
Sylvia Getman, TAMC president and CEO, believes that Parent will help strengthen ties between TAMC and the community.
“TAMC is excited to welcome Jason on board,” said Sylvia Getman. “Jason has strong roots in Aroostook County, an appreciation for our area’s history and an understanding of the great possibilities that are ahead of us. He is familiar with the important role that TAMC plays in the community. His perspective will be particularly valuable as TAMC continues to celebrate 100 years of providing health care in Aroostook County.”
Jason Parent 
is a familiar face throughout Aroostook County, holding director-level public relations and fund-raising positions in both central Aroostook County and the St. John Valley. He most recently served as director of development and college relations at Northern Maine Community College, and he currently serves as president of the Maine delegation to the organizing body of the 2014 World Acadian Congress.
“Through my ongoing commitment in the community with projects like the Acadian Congress and others, I have gained a true appreciation for both the rich heritage and promising future of our region,” Parent said. “I appreciate that there are many challenges but have come to realize that there are many more opportunities.”
In his time at NMCC, Parent built strong partnerships between the college and local businesses and organizations, helped launch the college’s first major gifts campaign and led a successful effort to double the college’s endowment. He has been recognized at the regional and state level for his work, including being named to the 2010 MaineBiz Next List of People Shaping Maine’s Economy.
Parent will be working to advance TAMC’s mission by forming partnerships between TAMC and others in the community who have an interest in health care. One of his immediate priorities will be to build upon the work that TAMC employees are already doing in the community.
“TAMC and its employees have a strong tradition of engaging with the County community through service in various organizations and for numerous causes,” added Parent. “Moving forward, we will look to develop new and exciting partnerships that will highlight this involvement and create new synergy and opportunity. This will be especially evident as we spend this year celebrating TAMC’s centennial and telling the story of an organization that has played such a critical role in the development of Aroostook County over the past century.”
He will also be leading TAMC’s fund-raising program and coordinating the organization’s response to proposed legislation at the state and national levels that would impact health care in Aroostook County.
Parent says he is looking forward to working in health care, an industry he feels strengthens Aroostook County.
“Much like the public and higher education systems, excellence in health care is key to attracting business, industry and families to our region. As the demographics of our region continue to shift, the significance of TAMC in the County will only grow. I am excited about joining TAMC because the organization is clearly committed to excellence and to the betterment of the Aroostook County community — both attributes I value greatly,” he said.
Parent, a native of the St. John Valley, lives in Caribou with his wife and two children.
