Scholarships available for County scholar-athletes
It’s time for area senior scholar-athletes to apply for the Northern Region of the Maine Sports Legends annual scholarships.
Applications have been mailed to all Aroostook area guidance offices. The deadline for an application is May 10.
The Maine Sports Legends is a statewide organization dedicated to honoring outstanding scholar-athletes who have met the prescribed standards in academics, have participated in their school’s varsity athletic programs along with possessing good character, completed community and civic involvement and shown strong leadership ability. This scholarship of $500 is awarded to one male and female from the Aroostook area and will be awarded solely on the basis of the student’s credentials and shall be made without regard to financial need.
There will be eight $500 scholarships awarded statewide.
Maine Sports Legends officials noted that McCain Foods in Easton and Katahdin Trust Company have been significant donors to the scholarship fund. Many other local businesses and individuals in Aroostook County have provided varied financial donations to the scholarship program over the past years.
