Ashland’s Streinz
wins middle school classic Nordic title

NEW SWEDEN — The Caribou girls and Ashland boys won the County Middle School Classic Championships held in New Sweden last Friday.
COUNTY CHAMP — Daniel Streinz of Ashland was the winner in the County Middle School Championship. The classic Nordic race was held last Friday in New Sweden.
The Caribou Middle School Nordic team totaled 14 points to win the girls’ competition. Presque Isle (40) finished second, followed by Ashland (87), Fort Fairfield (89), Union 122 (108), Madawaska (109) and Fort Kent (123).
In the boys’ race, Ashland had 28 points, followed by Presque Isle (36), Caribou (57), Fort Fairfield (58), Union 122 (72), Madawaska (95) and Fort Kent (112).
Daniel Streinz of Ashland won the boys’ competition with a time of 11:30.9, about 16 seconds ahead of Lance McKenney (11:47) of Fort Fairfield, who came in second.
Other local skiers in the top 15 were: 3, Malcolm Milligan, Ashland; 4, Riley McDuffie, Caribou; 5, Gannon Therrien, PI; 6, Jason Bartley, PI; 7, Caleb Willett; 9, Lucas Lagasse, Union 122; 10, Caleb Streinz, Ashland; 11, Anthony McBreairty, Fort Fairfield; 12, Nick Bartlett, PI; 13, John Saucier, PI; and 14, Zach Carr, PI.
Anna Soderberg of Caribou was the top finisher for the girls with a time of 14:03.1.
