SHERMAN and HOULTON – Frederica W. Daniels, 95, died peacefully Feb. 23, 2012, at Madigan Estates Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 27, 1916, in Millinocket, the daughter of Robert and Jenny (Downs) Wilson.
Mrs. Daniels, a 1934 graduate of Stearns High School, Millinocket, received her Registered Nurse’s degree from St. Barnabas Hospital Training School for Nurses in Portland in 1937. Following the completion of her nursing studies, she served as an operating room nurse at the Osteopathic Hospital in Portland where she met the love of her life, Dr. William Daniels. She and her husband enjoyed 71 years of marriage together and raised two sons. She led an active community and church life. Freddy, as she was known to many, served as organist for Molunkus Valley Chapter No. 95, Order of the Eastern Star for 37 years. In 2008, she was presented with the Shining Star of the East honor by the Order of the Eastern Star. She also played the piano for morning worship at Washburn Memorial Church in Sherman and was very active on the Sherman Old Home Days committees for many years. Freddy was also a member of the Washburn Memorial Church Fellowship and the Noel Club, as well as being a member of the Anah Temple Sunshine Club. She was a devoted friend and caring neighbor to many, as well as being a loving mother and grandmother. She looked forward to spending her summers at their camp on Pleasant Pond, Island Falls, where they were often joined by family and friends.
She was survived by her sons, William and his wife, Diana, of Island Falls; John and his wife, Phyllis, of Bucksport; grandchildren, Katherine Moore Daniels and her husband, Justin Kinney, of Quincy, Mass., Jennifer Lennon Daniels and her fiancé, Charles Amara, of Franklin, Mass., Robin Coombs and her husband, Danny, Angel Alley, and Jason Alley and his wife, Justine, all of Bucksport; great-grandchildren, Jared Daniels, Colin Kinney, Jeremy and Chad Coombs, Leif and Aesa Alley; four great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patricia Wilson of Millinocket; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Dr. William L. Daniels in 2009; brothers, Robert, Stephen and Richard; sisters, Madelyn and Pauline.
Friends may call 12 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Washburn Memorial Church with the Order of the Eastern Star conducting its worship service.
