ABERNATHY, Artie L., Jr., 62, MAPLETON, March 11, 2012. A graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou. Arrangements in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Homes, Presque Isle.

MAPLETON  – Artie Abernathy, 62, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, at his residence. He was born December 1, 1949, in Pampa, Texas, the son of the late Sheryl and Artie Abernathy Sr.

    He served his country during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Caribou V.F.W. Post #9389. Artie enjoyed reading, music, cars, watching baseball, especially little league baseball.

    He is survived by four children, William Abernathy of Washington, Artie Abernathy III of Presque Isle, Traci Stone and her husband, Michael of Presque Isle, Sherry Abernathy of Wisconsin; a grandson, David Abernathy; as well as extended family and his best friend and neighbor, Josh, Starr and family.

    A graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Central Aroostook Humane Society in memory of Artie, or to PO Box 1721, Presque Isle, ME to set up a college trust fund for his youngest grandson, David Abernathy.
