Newport News, Va. — Our beloved Alice Marie Harris Barker, 77, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 10, 2012. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Doody Harris; her father, Kenneth Wesley Harris, formerly of Washburn, Maine and her husband, Jack P. Barker of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.
Alice had a varied career and worked on Capitol Hill for the Federal Maritime Commission. After leaving Washington, she and her husband were owners and proprietors of the Country Inn in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. During that period, she provided days of respite to many ministers, counselors and their families. After moving to Virginia, she was co-owner of The Perfect Setting, which is now located in City Center of Oyster Point in Newport News.
She loved gospel music, and played the piano for many churches. Her lovely voice and talent touched many lives during the course of her lifetime. Most importantly, she not only loved God, but demonstrated HIS love to others through her actions.
A private celebration of her life will be held by family and friends. In lieu of flowers or contributions, make a difference with money or time with a family member, friend or stranger. Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.
