St. Patrick’s Day get-together planned by Mapleton church

by Jennifer Buzza

The Mapleton Methodist Women are stepping out into the community and want to try holding a Community Day. On Saturday, March 17, we would like to invite anyone and everyone from the surrounding communities to a St. Patrick’s Day-themed get together and potluck lunch at the church.

Anyone who wishes to bring a dish is invited to, but it isn’t necessary. After lunch we will have some music, activities and other surprises. The event will run from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Hopefully this will turn into a monthly get-together for our town. Please mark you calendar and come join us!

Birthday wishes this week go out to Dorothy Dean, Catharine Hamilton, Peter Greenier, Keith Pendexter, Fudd Wood, Kathy Scott, Carla Carney, Chad Putnam, Roxie Putnam, Samantha Boulier, Robbie Hoffses, Alice McQuade and Sarah Beaulieu.

Anniversaries

There are no anniversary wishes this week.

Mapleton Daze update

Last Thursday, the Mapleton Lions Club hosted the first meeting of those community members interested in helping with Mapleton Daze. At the meeting, the major activities previously announced for Mapleton Daze were confirmed. The group will meet again next Thursday at the Mapleton Lions Hall at 6:30 p.m. Other activities for the weekend will be discussed. Volunteers interested in helping are encouraged to attend.

Scarves donated

The Mapleton United Methodist Women decided to make scarves as one of their mission projects. They reached out into the local area and found many wonderful volunteers from the towns of Mapleton, Washburn, Portage, Chapman and Presque Isle to help them knit. The UMW expresses their many thanks to all who helped.

Kathy Swanson and Marie Bagley received so many hugs and “thanks yous” from those special folks who participated in the outdoor day that was held at the Shriner’s Club on the Houlton Road. It was a chilly day and the scarves were appreciated by those who received them.

According to Bagley of the Mapleton United Methodist Women, one little girl was riding on volunteer Scott Thompson’s sled, when she tapped Scott on the back and told him she loved her scarf! For those volunteers, it was a blessing to see the special folks smiling and so happy.

Second March luncheon

The Mapleton United Methodist Church will be hosting a second March luncheon Friday, March 30 at 11:30 a.m. All are invited to attend. There will not be a luncheon April 6 because of Good Friday.
