Three county leaders
join NMCC General Advisory Council
PRESQUE ISLE — Northern Maine Community College General Advisory Council Chairperson Athill Hebert and NMCC President Timothy Crowley are pleased to announce the appointment of three county leaders to the College General Advisory Council.
Stephen Farnham, Ronald Fitzgerald and Larry A. Lovelette, all of Presque Isle, have joined the group, comprised of members from throughout Aroostook County, charged with advising college leaders and serving as advocates for NMCC.
“The experience and expertise these three gentlemen add to the already impressive group of individuals from throughout the region who serve on the General Advisory Council will be most beneficial to our discussion about the future development of NMCC,” said Hebert. “This is an exciting time for ‘The County’s College.’ As the campus serves a record number of students and expands program offerings to meet the needs of the region, it is important to have a diverse group of individuals with their fingers on the pulse of The County to guide and support that development.”
Stephen Farnham, the executive director of the Aroostook Agency on Aging, has worked to improve the quality of life for older people for 37 years at the local, state and national levels. He serves as the New England representative to the board of directors of the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging. He served on the Federal Council on the Aging from 1990-94 and was appointed as a Maine delegate to the 1985, 1995 and 2005 White House Conferences on Aging. Farnham holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Maine.
Ronald Fitzgerald
is a respected faculty member and administrator who, until his recent retirement, served NMCC for the better part of three decades. He most recently held the post of interim academic dean at the college, but had previously served as department chair for the arts and sciences department, trade/tech area coordinator, acting dean for adult and industrial education, and a general education and math/science instructor. Fitzgerald earned his master of education degree from Antioch New England Graduate School in Keene, N.H. in 1994. He earned his undergraduate credential, a bachelor of science degree, from the University of Maine at Presque Isle in 1969.
Larry A. Lovelette is the director of the Defense Finance and Accounting Service in Limestone. Immediately prior to his present position, Lovelette was the director of DFAS Europe, responsible for providing exemplary customer service and finance and accounting support for Department of Defense activities, DFAS sites, and European vendors. Before assuming the DFAS Europe director position, he was the deputy director for transformation at DFAS Limestone where he provided knowledge, guidance and insight on major initiatives being deployed in support of the DFAS Transformation vision at DFAS Limestone. Lovelette is a certified defense financial manager and earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Husson University.
The addition of Farnham, Fitzgerald and Lovelette brings to a dozen the current membership of the NMCC General Advisory Council. The committee meets quarterly or more frequently as needed, and provides valuable feedback for strategic planning, as well as advocacy for the college throughout the county.
Other members serving on the NMCC General Advisory Committee include Nancy Chandler of Maine Public Service Co., Chris Fitzpatrick of Machias Savings Bank in Houlton, Michael Kelley Jr. of TD Bank in Presque Isle, Jon McLaughlin of the Southern Aroostook Development Corp. in Houlton, John Pelletier, a consultant from Van Buren; Christine Therrien, town manager of Madawaska; Michael Thibodeau of MMG Insurance in Presque Isle, and Duane Walton of the Northern Maine Development Commission.
