New England Swimming Championship
Presque Isle High School sophomore Issac Estey placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.52 at New England High School Championship swim meet at Bates College on March 4. This was Estey’s best time this year in the event.
Hoop registration
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has started accepting registrations for Mini Hoopsters. This basketball program is for youth in grades pre-kindergarten and kindergarten. The fee for the program is $20, which includes a team shirt. Registration ends on March 21.
Youth Hockey fundraiser
The Presque Isle Youth Hockey Association will be hosting a Stew Night Fundraiser at the Presque Isle Snowmobile Club on Friday March 23 from 5-7 p.m.
Skating show this weekend
The Northern Maine Figure Skating Club will be having its 30th annual musical on ice entitled “Viva Las Vegas” this weekend at the Forum in Presque Isle. The performances will be Saturday at 1 p.m. or 7 p.m. More than fifty skaters will portray their skills set to music. Tickets are available from any club member or at the door.
Player of the Week
University of Maine – Presque Isle junior guard Brad Trask of Easton has been named the Association of Division III Independents men’s basketball Player of the Week.
Trask averaged 15 points per game on 11-of-19 shooting from the floor, including 8-of-14 from three-point range.
Quoggy Jo youth races
Another round of youth races were held at Quoggy Jo in Presque Isle on Feb. 25.
Libby Boone (34.60 seconds) placed first in the 10-12 girls’ division.
Max Graves (43.72) was first in the 6 and under category. In the boys’ 7-9 age group, Ben Duprey was first in 32.76, followed by Oliver Graves (34.54) and Clay Craigg (36.25). Noah Farley was the fastest in the 13-15 group with a time of 34.19.
