The Maine Association of Basketball Coaches (MABC) announced the A/B East and C/D East player selections for the for the 2012 Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games.
The All-stars were selected based upon ballot returns on a statewide high school basketball coaches’ vote conducted by the MABC in January.
The 2012 Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Games will be played at Newman Gymnasium on the campus of Husson University in Bangor on Saturday, March 10. The game-day program will feature head-to-head competition between top players in the state’s A/B and C/D boys and girls divisions.
Named to the C/D East girls team are: Allison Hill, Calais; Samantha Brownell, Central; Janelle Ciomei, Deer-Isle Stonington; Maicee Gustin, Dexter; Amanda Hotham, Fort Fairfield; Amanda Fogarty, Houlton; Taylor Hawkins, Mattanawcook Academy; Kate Berry, Orono; Reese Leonard, Penobscot Valley and Taylor Cochran, Woodland. Coaching the C/D East girls are Jess Witham of Orono and Mike Carlos of Washburn.
Chosen for the C/D East boys team are: Jeremy Beers and Joe Mitchell, Calais; Mike McClung and Brendan York, Central Aroostook; D.J. Johnson, Lee Academy; Matt Deschenes, Madawaska; Chase Vicaire and Nicholas L’Italien, Mattanawcook Academy; Tyler Eddy, Orono; Jared Lyons, Schenck and Gabe O’Brien, Sumner. Coaching the C/D East boys are Walter Crabtree of Sumner and Tim Brewer of Central Aroostook.
The game day schedule will be: 8:30-9 a.m., state foul shooting championship, featuring Katahdin’s Colton Bivighouse for the North region, along with Chase Vicaire, Mattanawcook Academy for the East region; Dylan Price, Madison, Central region and Nick Clark, Greely for the South region.
The C/D girls game will be at 9:15-10:30 a.m., followed by the 3-point shooting competition from 10:30-10:45 a.m.
The A/B girls game is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., followed by an awards presentation until 1 p.m. The A/B boys game runs from 1:15-2:30 p.m., with the slam dunk competition following from 2:30-2:45 p.m.
Wrapping up the day will be the C/D boys game from 3-4:15 p.m.
Game day tickets may be purchased at the door and are good for all four games. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and children.
All-star players, All-star coaches, members of the All-State Academic teams, Regional Foul Shooting Champions, Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Game Award recipients, the MABC Contributor Award honoree, and Mr. and Miss Basketball will be recognized at an awards banquet on Friday, March 9, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Husson University.
