LIMESTONE — Students at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM) can now snowshoe and ski through the fields of Aroostook County thanks to a $500 Outing Club grant from the Maine-based Teens to Trails (T3) Foundation. The grant was one of eleven given to advance the foundation’s goal of establishing an outing club in every Maine high school, thereby promoting fun outdoor adventures, healthy lifestyles and environmental stewardship.

MSSM established its Outdoor Program this school year under the leadership of Matthew Grillo, Dean of Students, and Residential Life Instructors Jonathon King and Mallory Zingone. According to Grillo, “Getting outdoors is one of the best ways for students to relax, stay healthy, and experience the County. It’s even more important when they’re immersed in a very rigorous, challenging academic environment. They need to get outside and clear their heads,” he added. “We’re very grateful to Teens to Trails for significantly increasing our ability to help them do that during the winter months.”
Other schools to receive this year’s T3 Outing Club grants were Biddeford High School, Cony High School, Deer Isle-Stonington High School, Deering High School, Dirigo High School, Maine Central Institute, Portland High School, South Portland High School, The New School, and Thornton Academy.
