IRELAND, Dana W., 81, MAPLETON, at Presque Isle, March 3, 2012. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wed., at the Mapleton Baptist Church. Spring interment with military honors will be at Southside Cemetery, Mapleton. Arrangements in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Homes, Presque Isle.

American Flag ColorMAPLETON – Dana W. Ireland (Mountain Man), 81, went to be with his Lord, Saturday, March 3, 2012, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born on January 28, 1931, in Mapleton, the son of Millard and Abigail (Archer).
    Dana served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked at SAD#1 as a school bus driver and custodian for 25 1/2 years. He served in the Mapleton Volunteer Fire Dept. for 25 years. Dana loved the outdoors, loved to hunt and fish, loved to sing, and was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed working as a handyman. He was a member of the Mapleton Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and soloist in the choir.
    He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Winnifred (Littlefield) Ireland of Mapleton; three sons and their wives, Michael and Betty of West Chapman, Wayne and Jill of Mapleton, Mark and Judy of West Chapman; a daughter, Penny LeBlanc and her husband, Ben of Mapleton; nine grandchildren, Melanie Duncan and husband, Joshua, Rachel Boulier and husband, Gordie, Matthew and wife, Kaci (Murchison), Jasmine, Abigail, Lucas, Shawn, Shane, and Benjamin; four great-grandchildren, Samantha and Brayden Boulier, Mason Ireland, and Samuel Duncan; several nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by two brothers, Leland and Roy; and six sisters, Virginia Bagley, Nettie Wilcox, Leola Carpenter, Laura St. Peter, Eva Jackson, and Rena Turner.

    Friends called 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wed., at the Mapleton Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Phelps officiating. Spring interment with military honors will be at Southside Cemetery, Mapleton.
