Fort Fairfield Rotary briefed on APP events
FORT FAIRFIELD — Bob Dorsey, president/CEO, Aroostook Partnership for Progress (APP), spoke at the Feb. 22 Fort Fairfield Rotary Club meeting. Dorsey explained how the public/private sectors are working with Northern Maine Community College to improve job development in the County. Some factors contributing to the often talked about young people “out migration” are inadequate knowledge about existing, available jobs/career paths and job skills training.
Dorsey noted that going forward APP desires to work with County high schools and employers to define workplace skills needs and possible shadow programs where participants get to “shadow,” in the workplace environment, an employee that is in a job related to a career field that the participant may be considering.
Additionally, APP is making plans for a Biomass Fair at the University of Maine Presque Isle in May. The fair’s primary purpose is to introduce young people to available jobs in the County.
Additional information about APP may be obtained by contacting the Northern Maine Development Commission in Caribou, 498-8736.
