HOULTON — Almost everyone loves a good peanut butter and jelly sandwich. So that is why Bangor Savings Bank is asking its customers, and the general public as well, to drop off a jar of either food during the month of March.
Bangor Savings Bank is currently holding a food drive at its Houlton branch, located on the corner of Court and Military streets to collect jars of peanut butter and jelly for local food pantries.

Showing off their bank display are, from left, Louda Boreloud, teller; Jody Harvey, customer service representative; Roxanne Lyons, teller; Nancy Britton, teller; and Brenda Richards, assistant branch manager.
“Whatever branch they are, or town they are located in, we are collecting for them,” explained Brenda Richards, assistant branch manager. “This is a statewide food drive, helping local food pantries. This is the first time we have done this. We know local food pantries need help.”
Richards said peanut butter and jelly were chosen as the food items to collect because not only are they the most popular at food pantries, but they are also among the more expensive.
A collection box can be found inside the Houlton branch, while additional boxes are located at County Yankee, Paradis Shop N’ Save, Houlton Southside School, Gardiner Nursing Home, Madigan Estates, Houlton Regional Hospital, Uncle Willy’s Candy Shoppe, Houlton Higher Education Center, The New You hair salon, Military Street Laundromat, Oakfield Thriftway and Mardens.
