Cassie Westman of Caribou celebrated her 9th birthday by asking friends to bring gifts for the animals of the Halfway Home Pet Rescue (HHPR) instead of for her. Cassie and her parents, Jon and Dawn Westman, brought the presents to the rescue and spent time loving each homeless cat. Cassie has volunteered at the pet shelter several times during school vacations, taking time to brush and play with the cats. Cassie’s third-grade classmates at Teague Park, and her church family at Gray Memorial donated all the goodies for the cats. According to HHPR President Norma Milton, she is happy to report a continued high adoption rate and is grateful for the community support offered to these homeless cats. “We are currently collecting new and nicely used items for our Trash & Treasure Sale in April,” she added. HHPR is a 501c3 non-profit organization and a 2012 Maine state licensed pet rescue. “If you are looking for a nice clean, healthy, happy loving cat for your family, please call us,” Milton said. The shelter can be reached at 492-1722 for more information.
