INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA – Paul P. Bither, 57, died on February 1, 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana after a noble battle with esophageal cancer. He passed away at home with his wife and children at his side. Paul was born October 14, 1954 in Houlton, the fourth child of Christie and Preston Bither. He attended Houlton schools, graduating at age 16 as valedictorian of his high school class.
He completed his undergraduate studies at Colby College where he also pursued his passion for music. He attended the New England School of Optometry and completed a residency in low vision rehabilitation in West Haven, CT.
Paul opened a private practice for low vision care in 1988. In 2011, he was awarded “Outstanding Professional of the Year” by the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired.
He was a member of the John Wesley Free Methodist Church, where he met his wife. He served in a number of ministries and sang regularly in the tenor section of the choir.
Paul and Carol shared 27 years together, raising their two children, Brian and Amy.
Survivors include his sister, Marie, and brother, Dean.
