Galen A. Snowman, 76, of Coudersport, PA died unexpectedly Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA.
Born on December 13, 1934, in Caribou, he was the son of Milton A. and Florence Carlsen Snowman. On July 12, 1958, in Coudersport, he married Helen Psychos who survives.
Mr. Snowman was a graduate of Caribou High School. He had served with the U. S. Army from 1955-1956. He had resided in the Coudersport area since 1955 and was a longtime potato farmer. After his retirement from farming Mr. Snowman worked with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for nine years. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, the American Legion, and was a 50-year member of Eulalia Lodge 342 F. & A.M. and the Coudersport Consistory. Mr. Snowman enjoyed working in his woodworking shop and especially loved to work with his horses. He also enjoyed his Christmas trees and taking rides in the countryside visiting his special friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his mother of 101 years, Florence Snowman (now deceased January 14, 2012), of Coudersport, PA; three children, Stephanie Gerhart and her husband, Terry, of Coudersport, PA, Kara Wulff and her husband, Michael, of Delray Beach, FL, Greg Snowman of Coudersport, PA; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father, Milton A. Snowman, who died on November 4,1989.
Friends were invited to Galen’s Life Celebration beginning on Thursday, December 15, 2011 with visitation from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Fickinger Funeral Home of Coudersport. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church in Coudersport with the Reverend Carol Carlson officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Sweden Hill Cemetery, Coudersport.
