BROWN, Cora Maxine, 86, WESTBROOK, at Portland, February 17, 2012. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 24, at 11 a.m. at the Cressey Road United Methodist Church, Gorham. Arrangements in care of Dolby & Dorr Funeral Chapel, Gorham.

    WESTBROOK – Cora Maxine Brown, 86, of Longfellow Street, died Thursday, February 17, 2012, at a Portland hospital. She was born on January 13, 1926, in Presque Isle, a daughter of Eldon and Grace Stairs Grass.

    Cora was a 1943 graduate of Presque Isle High School. In 1944, she married Harold Brown and recently celebrated 68 years of wedded bliss. She worked in retail as well as for the superintendent of schools and retired as an optometric assistant.

    Cora was an active member of the Cressey Road United Methodist Church, president of the UMW, she was a bell ringer for 20 years, was a member of the Trinity Circle and assisted in other church functions. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and was a reader for Westbrook Waddlers. Cora also volunteered for the Gorham school system. She enjoyed taking adult education courses and gardening. Cora and Harold traveled several times to England and abroad.

    Cora was predeceased by her parents, as well as her brothers and sisters.

    Besides her husband, survivors include her daughters, Vicki Frost and her husband, Carl of Gorham, Susan Woyshner of Indiatlantic, FL; grandchildren, Alexis Hourigan and husband, Bruce of New Gloucester, ME, Samuel Perkins and wife, Crystal of Stuart, VA, Jessica Frost of Beverly, MA; great-grandchildren, Makayla and Xavier Hourigan, Tobias, Quentin and Camryn Perkins.

    A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 24, at 11 a.m. at the Cressey Road United Methodist Church, 81 Cressey Road, Gorham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cora’s memory may be made to Good Shepherd Food Bank, 3121 Hotel Road, Auburn, ME 04210-8398 or to Cressey Road United Methodist Church, 81 Cressey Road, Gorham, ME 04038.
