Purple Hat Society
By Lois Downing
The ladies of the Purple Hat Society, led by Charlotte Marley of Smyrna, gathered at A Place to Eat restaurant in Oakfield for their Feb. 14 meeting.
It was a delightful day for Valentine’s Day. All the tables were decorated in red/white colors for Valentine’s Day.
When members gave her introduction to her original name and her Purple Hat name, other members responded with adjectives to describe the person. Each lady had an article of red color on her Purple Hat and each was different. This little bit added to the gaity of the occasion.
Wannetta Townsend gave the blessing before the meal.
Ladies brought an unsigned Valentine and placed it in a provided basket. The Valentine was given to someone who you ordinarily would not give a Valentine. Each lady was asked to provide three words from the word Valentine.
Peggy Sanders denoted birthdays. Joanne Scott and Marie Gillotti won purple purses.
Sandy Wyman gave a reading.
Each lady was given a purple/white cupcake before departure. The cupcakes were given by the staff of the restaurant A Place to Eat. We thank you very much.
Dolores Locke will have charge of the next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 13 at the SAVE building in Houlton.
