Whitney Wreath,

Bank recognized at recent White House event

Whitney Wreath and Machias Savings Bank officials accepted an invitation by the White House and USDA to a “Recognition of Manufacturing Success in Rural America” event with White House officials, featuring Deputy Under Secretary for USDA Rural Development Doug O’Brien and Administrator for USDA Rural Development Rural Business and Cooperative Service Judith Canales.

The special event was held on Friday, Feb. 17, at The White House, Eisenhower Executive Office Building, in Washington, D.C. Whitney Wreath, located in Whitneyville, just outside of Machias, manufacturers holiday wreaths and other decorations for sale as a vendor for major retailers. Whitney Wreath utilized a multi-million dollar USDA Rural Development Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan with lender Machias Savings Bank to make it possible for the manufacturing company to build its state-of-the art wreath assembling facility. This funding supports approximately 455 jobs at this manufacturing business.

USDA Rural Development State Director Virginia Manuel said, “Congratulations to Whitney Wreath for being selected for this honor. This special recognition of Whitney Wreath and manufacturing businesses like it from across the country really underscores the significant role these businesses play in supporting local jobs and driving our rural economies. I am pleased that USDA Rural Development and Machias Savings Bank could partner to ensure the success of this Maine manufacturing business and support President Obama’s vision for ‘An America Built to Last.’”

Whitney Wreath also operates a seasonal facility on Main Street in Presque Isle.
