Seven HS teams tackle slalom and GS at Bigrock

    MARS HILL — Alpine skiers from seven schools hit the slopes at Bigrock Ski Area on Saturday and the Fort Kent Warriors swept the meet for both boys and girls.

    Both giant slalom and slalom events were held. In the boys’ GS Fort Kent totaled 16 points, followed by Caribou (46), Central Aroostook (60), Presque Isle (60), Lee Academy (91) and Mattanawcook Academy did not field a full team.

    Brandon Ouellette of Fort Kent was the race winner with a combined time of his two runs of 1:44.03.

    Local skiers in the top 15 were: 2, Spenser Stetson, CAHS, 1:45.37; 5, Sean Barbosa, CAR, 1:50.67; 6, Nolan McDuffie, CAR, 1:51.77; 7, Chris Carroll, PI, 1:51.98; 10, Austin Caverhill, CAR, 1:54.28; 11, Freeman Short, PI, 1:54.33; 13 (tie), Cody Clayton and Sack Grass, CAHS, 1:55.81; and 15, Gabe Player, PIHS, 1:56.92.

    In the slalom Fort Kent had 15 points. Central Aroostook (39) was second, followed by Presque Isle (43), Caribou (55), Lee (81) and no team score for Mattanawcook.

    Fort Kent’s Ouellette was also the race winner in the slalom with a time of 1:34.30.

    Local skiers in the top 15 were: 2, Stetson, CAHS, 1:34.58; 5, Clayton, CAHS, 1:40.86; 6, Matt Sullivan, PIHS, 1:41.06; 8, Barbosa, CAR, 1:42.47; 9, Grass, CAHS, 1:47.55; 10, Carroll, PI, 1:47.79; 12, McDuffie, CAR, 1:48.46; 13, Player, PI, 1:49.02; and 14, Thomas Freeman, PI, 1:54.21.

    In the girls’ GS Fort Kent totaled 14 points, followed by Caribou (40), Presque Isle (49) and Central Aroostook (54). Lee, Mattanawcook and Wisdom did not receive a team score.

    Fort Kent’s Alexa Pelletier was the winner with a combined time of 1:48.41.

    Local skiers in the top 15 were: 3, Chelsey Carroll, PI, 1:53.35; 5, Courtney Burby, CAR, 1:55.44; 6, Ginger Kieffer, CAR, 1:57.94; 9, Jolana Gough, PI, 1:59.03; 10, Paige Garrison, CAHS, 1:59.65; 11, Whitney Cote, CAHS, 2:00; 14, Katie Plourde, CAR, 2:01.78; and 15, Regan Buck, CAR, 2:03.94.

    In the slalom race Fort Kent had 11 points for the team win. Presque Isle (49) was second, followed by Caribou (56) and Central Aroostook (93).

    Local skiers in the top 15 were; 4, Carroll, PI, 1:43.67; 6, Kieffer, CAR, 1:57.20; 8, Plourde, CAR, 1:55.54; 9, Cote, CAHS, 1:57.20; 10, Gough, PI, 1:57.58; and 15, Cameo Madore, PI, 2:07.75.

    The state Class B Alpine ski meet will be held Feb. 22-23 at Bigrock. The Class D meet will be held at Mt. Abram and Black Mountain in western Maine Feb.  20-22.
