Contributed photoResidents and staff at Gardiner Health Care wore red Friday to raise awareness of Women’s Heart Health. Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, but less than half are aware of it and only 40 percent consider themselves well informed about heart disease. Women do not always display the common signs of a heart attack. Some of the most common signs in women are chest discomfort, discomfort in the upper body, neck or jaw pain, shortness of breath, or nausea and lightheadedness. Gardiner Health Care staff prepared heart healthy meals for the residents and the activities of the day emphasized having fun while exercising. Informational handouts were available for all staff and visitors.
